By Jerri Perry

Locating a South Dakota RV park is actually very simple. The fastest way to find out about the options is to run an on line search. This will give the camper more than enough parks to choose from. As everyone now has a web site it is easy to see what the sites look like and know what facilities are available.

Many travellers each year make their way to the beautiful northern plains. There is so much to do and see. This ranges from the dramatic Mount Rushmore to the rolling land of the Black Hills. Many families spend their summers in the region to take advantage of the great outdoors. There are literally hundreds of miles of hiking trails that are perfect for all ages and abilities. Even those with young children will find plenty of gentle trails to enjoy.

Many travellers love to take their family out west and show them the famous site of Custer's last stand. This epic battle has gone down in American history and folk lore. Being able to stand on the same spot as Custer and his men really is a very moving experience. The family can then head over to Mount Rushmore to marvel at the sight of four presidents carved out of the cliff face.

In addition to the historic and cultural sites there are also endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. The northern plains have a wonderful diversity of landscape, ranging from the mystical Black Hills to the wide open grass lands. There are miles of hiking and biking trails designed for all ages and abilities. Even the youngest children will be able to tackle some of the easy trails, whilst advanced hikers are going to be very happy with the more challenging paths.

Most RV parks have at least one swimming pool. Summers can be very hot and visitors need a place to cool off and relax. The pool is especially welcome for families and gives the kids a chance to work off some energy after a day on the road. Once they get situated on their site they will need plenty to do. A play ground and organized activities are also a great way to spend some time.

Evenings on the site will often include a camp fire. This is one of the most enjoyable and traditional aspects of camping. Gathering around the flames with family and friends is one of the most special moments of the entire vacation. Some parks allow each individual camper to have their own small fires, whilst others only allow larger fires in specially designated areas. It is always important to check on the site rules.

As the sun sets on another busy day one of the highlights of a campsite is the chance to enjoy an evening under the stars. The traditional camp fire is really a wonderful way to end the day. Families gather around to roast hot dogs, toast marshmallow's and create memories that will last a lifetime. The children especially find this a magical time and love to come back year after year.

Staying at a South Dakota RV park is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the northern plains. Every age group has something special to enjoy. This ranges from visiting historic sites to hiking the trails.
