Having Dripping Springs Dentures Fitted

By Jayne Rutledge

Dentures, also referred to as false teeth, are custom made replacements for missing teeth. Full Dripping Springs dentures are used as a replacement if you have lost all your natural teeth. If you have lost individual teeth, you can opt for partial dentures.

Full and partial dental plates are designed to support your facial muscles and your lips. It stops sagging of the face muscles and prevents your lips from receding. It will improve your overall facial appearance and allow you to chew properly whilst eating.

A full upper or lower denture will be used if all your teeth have to be removed or if you are in the process of replacing an old full plate. This type of plate is normally fitted when your teeth are removed. This means that you will not be without teeth at any point. The plate should fit quite snugly over your jawbone and your gums. There are times when you may have to go through a waiting period before the plate can be placed.

The fitting process of full upper or lower false teeth requires that moulds and measurements are taken of your mouth. This will be done by your dentist, who will continue to order the plate from a professional dental technician. The technician will make your false teeth from the impressions that the dentist took of your mouth. Your Dripping Springs dentures professional will fit the plate to ensure that it is an exact fit. This procedure may be undertaken with the dental technician present to allow him or her to make any required amendments to the plate.

If you are missing a single tooth or more, you will be offered a partial dental plate. These plates are made available with a metal or a plastic plate. The false teeth are then attached to this plate. This form of false teeth normally comes with clips to attach it to your natural teeth. The clips allow the false teeth to remain in place. The plate can simply be unclipped to remove it for cleaning purposes.

The first time you use your dentures, it may be strange. If you have been without teeth for a long period, the plate may feel uncomfortable. Your dentist may recommend that you wear the plate even when you go to sleep. It is not always necessary to remove your dentures when you go to sleep, but removing it gives your gums the chance to rest. If you opt to remove your dental plate when you go to sleep, you should put it in a special dental cleaning solution or in water. This prevents the plate material from drying out which may change its shape.

Upon initial fitting of your dental plate, you should commence eating soft food that is cut into small pieces. You should not eat any hard, sticky food and should avoid chewing gum. Once you feel comfortable with the dentures in your mouth, you will be able to return to your previous diet.

It is imperative that you continue good dental health habits even if you have obtained false teeth from your Dripping Springs dentures professional. To do this, you should brush your remaining natural teeth, your gums and tongue at least two times per day. This will prevent decay of your teeth and gum disease. Your false teeth can be cleaned by using water and soap or toothpaste to brush it before you soak it in water overnight.
