How To Make Handmade Orthotics

By Nelda Powers

Athletes or people who have a severe case of flat feet would usually wear some custom made insoles with an arch support in order to be able to make up for their flat arch. Now although usually these special types of insoles are made by professional manufacturers, they can actually be made at home. One can make handmade orthotics if his case is not very severe like if he just has a low arch.

Now before one would want to make one of these things, he would first have to get hand of certain materials. Now the most important thing that he would need would be some insoles probably from other shoes that he does not use anymore. Just make sure that all sizes of these things are more or less the same or similar.

The next thing that he would have to get would be a glue that is waterproof or better yet, super glue that can really stick. In order to cut up the insoles, one will be needing a pair of really sharp scissors because insoles may be tough to cut. As long as one has these things, then he may start getting to work on that insole.

So the very first thing to do would be to get at least two soles together and put one on top of the other. As stated above, make sure that all the soles are exactly the same size. From there, try to find the area where the arch of the foot is held.

When it is has been found, cut that part out from only one of the soles. In other words, cut out that part of one sole and make sure that the other sole is whole. From there, glue the one that was cut to the one that is whole using the super glue or the waterproof glue.

After that has already been done, then one just has to wait for the glue to dry before he tries it out. Of course as stated above, the best glue for this type of project would be super glue. It is this glue that is the stickiest as well as the most effective and it dries really fast.

In the event that the arch support is still not high enough for the person making it, then he may actually put another insole if he would want. He just has to get the third insole and just do the entire process again. Once he has done that, then he just has to wait for the glue dry and then try it on again.

Now if one is an athlete who needs a higher arch support or is a person who has a low arch, then he may actually make handmade orthotics at home to save money. Now if he has a very severe case of being flat footed, then it is best that he already buys a custom made one. Other than that, the handmade one is actually more than enough.
