Have You Been Accidentally Hurting Your Diet?

By Georgie Anders

We all know that the top foods to consume when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These would be the foods that give people protein and also energy. They keep the body nutritionally balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to lose our fat at the gym. Did you realize though that some of the diet foods you've been eating may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They can also be making you gain more weight! Here are a few of the foods that may be undermining your diet efforts.

Sports Drinks do not really help you. You've most likely been told that if you want to help your body renew itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Many health professionals agree, however, that if your training is less than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks could absolutely weaken your diet plan because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Try having some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar in chocolate may help your muscles start to repair themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

Protein Shakes are not a person's friend. Lots of people think that protein shakes may be used rather than meals and to curb cravings between meals. What you will be actually doing, especially if the remainder of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. Contrary to popular belief, protein does not get kept as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This means that when you have taken in too much protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't nearly as healthy for you as you might think it is. You probably believe that a sandwich that is produced from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives as well as sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This could be specifically dangerous if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of getting the pre-packaged products, you need to instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these options but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a lot of things that we imagine will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor precisely what the best ways for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you pay attention and are careful about what kind of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn't going to be a terribly big deal.
