The Right Hypothyroid Diet Breakfast

By Dr. Kevin Dobrzynski

The goal of the hypothyroid diet is to optimize metabolism. And the best way to jumpstart your metabolism everyday is with breakfast. If you're currently not eating breakfast, start!

Most foods and drinks consumed in the morning affect the function of the thyroid gland. Having a real meal that is healthy as opposed to just taking tea or coffee is crucial when one is suffering from this disorder.

You've been fasting since dinner the night before.

This is because your basal metabolic rate is at its highest point in the morning hence speeding up the process and a healthy meal will boost your metabolism.

A healthy breakfast meal should consist of carbohydrate, vitamins, protein and fat. Minerals like selenium and iodine should also be included in your nutritional plan.

A balanced diet should consist of vitamins, fats, protein, carbohydrates and other minerals which should be eaten in the same proportion.

It is important for the nutritional plan to consist of mineral selenium because it has a direct impact to the hormones produced by thyroid. Include Brazilian nuts, tomatoes and onions in your meals because they contain selenium.

The diet should also be rich in fiber to help the patient maintain proper weight. Examples include bread and brown rice among others.

Vegetables such as tomatoes and carrots should also be included in your meal as they contain fiber and antioxidants which reduce the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Avoid vegetables like cabbages, cauliflower and broccoli among others as they interfere with the function of the thyroid.

Creating a great smoothie just takes some practice. Here's an example of one of my favorites.

One banana, a handful of frozen strawberries, 1/4 of an avocado, whey protein, one raw egg, and water.

Instead of eating fatty meat like bacon and hamburger during breakfast go for healthier protein food.

If you use a banana, make sure it's small, and use one that's partially green. Green bananas have less sugar.

Eat fortified cereals, lentils among others instead of fatty meat.

Too much sugar will lead to weight gain. Avoid taking soft drinks like soda, processed juice and food stuffs like cakes and cookies during meals as it may not check on the reduction of some of the symptoms or signs.

Take your medication with water instead of juice for it to work properly. Do not include soybeans in your meals as it slows up the function of your medication.

However it is important to note that just because one is suffering from this condition does not mean that they have to watch the calories they consume or go on low fat diets.

It also important to take water especially when taking your medication instead of taking juice or soft drinks like soda.

Do not skip this breakfast instead make it to be the most important meal of the day by settling for the right hypothyroid diet.
